Fishing for Arctic Grayling on a pristine lake or stream in Canada’s Yukon is a fly fishing trip you won’t want to miss. The scenery and sight casting opportunities provided by Wilderness Fishing Yukon lake fishing combined with the Grayling’s natural characteristics make for a truly great Yukon fishing experience!
Grayling are one the most sought after species by sports fishermen for a few reasons:
- Pound for pound Arctic Grayling are arguably the best fighters out there. On a light rod fishing for Grayling can be incredibly entertaining.
- These fish are very aggressive when hungry. This makes them the perfect fish to learn how to fish for. Grayling provide great opportunities to learn how to cast, retrieve, and fine tune your timing for hook sets.
- Arctic Grayling are also one of the most beautiful fish you will ever see. The males have a dorsal fin that is iridescent.
Arctic Grayling fishing lures which work the best are 1″ to 1.5″ spoons. Mepps-type spinners are o.k. Most Arctic Grayling strike while the lure is sinking and before the retrieve has begun.
Spincast fishing for Grayling with Wilderness Fishing Yukon is available at Teenah, Drury, Claire, and Coghlan lakes.
Teenah Lake is unique in that it offers stream fishing and lake fishing for Grayling at more than one lake. There are three lakes you can hike to from Teenah. All three of them offer excellent grayling fishing. All the streams between the lakes are full of Grayling. I remember doing a portage between the uppermost and middle lake at Teenah and seeing over 500 fish.
Claire Lake offers Lake fishing only for Grayling at Creek mouths and in the narrows where the camp is. The Grayling at Claire are plentiful but Claire is not our best lake for Grayling. Claire is nice as it is one of the lakes that provides anglers opportunity for every species.
Drury offers Lake fishing and Stream fishing at the southeast end. The difference between Drury and Teenah is that Drury has clear water. The sight fishing at the southeast end of Drury Lake is bar none. Drury has produced the largest Grayling on average of all our lakes.
If Drury is clear, then Coghlan is super clear. The Grayling fishing at Coghlan is more like Grayling hunting. Just cruise around in the pontoon or tin boat until you spot them. Almost any drop off offers good opportunities! Sit on a flat on a calm day and pick the one you want to cast to!!
